The Government of Nicaragua donated to the Russian government a property valued on the market at around $800,000 dollars and located in an exclusive area of Managua, informed the Official Gazette, La Gaceta, on Saturday.

The donated land, with an extension of 5,656 square meters, is located in the Las Colinas residential area, which houses the headquarters of most accredited embassies in Nicaragua, as well as residences of the diplomatic corps and the wealthiest families in the country.

“Authorize the Attorney General of the Republic to appear before the Notary Public of the State to sign a public deed of donation of real property belonging to the State of Nicaragua in favor of the Russian Federation,” said the Ortega Executive in the text published by La Gaceta.

According to the publication of the Official Gazette, the President Ortega also authorizes the Attorney General to sign all the contractual clauses that are deemed pertinent, in order to safeguard the interests of the State.

Ortega also orders the legal representation of the State to execute all legal, administrative, notarial acts of said agreement, in accordance with the procedures established in Nicaraguan legislation.

Participation in Economic Forum

On June 6, the Nicaraguan and Russian government reconfirmed plans to carry out important trade and cooperation projects in this Central American country.

On that date, a high-level official delegation of the Ortega Government participated in the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, where Russia agreed to continue supporting trade and cooperation projects with Nicaragua.

The delegation of the Nicaraguan Government was formed by the Minister of Finance and Public Credit, Iván Acosta; the ambassador of Nicaragua in Russia, Alba Torres; and Laureano Ortega Murillo, son of the president and vice president of the country, Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, respectively.

Laureano Ortega, sanctioned by the United States and Canada for accusations of corruption, human rights violations and state repression during the sociopolitical crisis that erupted in April 2018, is his parents’ main advisor for investment, trade and international cooperation.

Since Daniel Ortega returned to the Presidency in 2007, Nicaragua and Russia have strengthened their relations in all fields.

Nicaragua is one of a handful of countries, along with Venezuela and the small island states of Nauru and Tuvalu, which have joined Russia in recognizing the independence of the Georgian separatist regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
