On the third anniversary of the April Rebellion, CONFIDENCIAL launched a new eBook (content in Spanish) that compiles the facts that shape the political crisis in Nicaragua through articles, interviews, chronicles and opinions, demonstrating the crimes against humanity committed by the government of Daniel Ortega.

"The crimes against humanity of the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship" is the eleventh digital book by CONFIDENCIAL, composed of four chapters and 28 texts, published between April 2018 and September 2020. In it, readers will find testimonies of people who broke ranks after the "let's go all out" order, made by the government, and an account of what happened during "Operation Cleanup", the brutal attacks executed by para-police forces, during which military weaponry was used.

The eBook  also includes key aspects of the reports published by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI), as well as interviews and opinion articles that allow for analysis of the criteria under which it is stated that the State organized attacks against the integrity and life of thousands of people, of which more than 300 lost their lives.

Rigorous solidarity

The new CONFIDENCIAL eBook includes a presentation written by Antonia Urrejola, president of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). In the presentation, Urrejola indicates that the publication contributes to the formation of public opinion; subjects public authorities and leaders to criticism and scrutiny, and presents the point of view of the victims.

"This work of rigorous editing presented by CONFIDENCIAL is an act of solidarity, because those who made it are themselves victims of this crisis, but they reflexively and consistently denounce the pain suffered by others. A rigorous solidarity that, without abandoning the techniques of the storytellers' craft, contributes to establishing the basis for the processes of justice that will be opened with respect to Nicaragua," says Urrejola.

The president of the IACHR also affirms that the journalistic works selected for this book "indicate the way in which the Nicaraguan State deployed itself strategically, systematically and in a coordinated manner with the aim of violently silencing dissidence and protest against the official narrative, as articulated in the civilian population, with a toll of hundreds of fatal victims."
