The president of Venezuela’s National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, announced on June 27, 2026, that 1,450 people have died following the two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 that struck on Wednesday, June 24, while 3,238 people have been injured.
“At this hour (…) we have recorded that 1,450 of our brothers and sisters have died. Tragically, they have lost their lives,” the lawmaker said in an address broadcast on the state-run television channel VTV.
Rodríguez added that, so far, 3,238 people have been injured, and 3,142 families have been displaced or otherwise affected.
He also said that, as of June 27, 2026, authorities have provided assistance to 73,736 families, particularly in the coastal state of La Guaira, north of Caracas, which was the region hardest hit by Wednesday’s twin earthquakes.
The legislator noted that 16 doctors from Curaçao have arrived in Venezuela to help treat earthquake victims.
He also said that more than 30,000 Venezuelan military personnel, police officers, rescue workers, doctors, paramedics, and psychologists have been deployed to the affected areas.
Rodríguez again urged citizens not to travel to La Guaira on their own in order to facilitate the movement of heavy machinery needed to clear debris, as well as the transport of injured people to hospitals in the coastal region and Caracas. He also renewed his appeal for donations at designated collection centers.
He added that volunteers are being registered at the Poliedro de Caracas to coordinate transportation efforts.
Earlier, the government of acting President Delcy Rodríguez reported that 2,600 tons of food and drinking water had been distributed overnight on Saturday, June 27, to affected families in La Guaira.
According to Oliver Blanco, Venezuela’s deputy minister for Europe and North America, the country has received more than 1,600 rescue workers to assist victims of the earthquakes.
Acting President Delcy Rodríguez met on Friday, June 26, with experts from the United States to assess rescue operations and coordinate assistance for earthquake victims.
In addition, thousands of Venezuelans have volunteered to participate in rescue efforts at damaged buildings and have organized donation drives and the transportation of relief supplies to various areas of Caracas and La Guaira.
