Bayardo Arce’s Children Demand “Proof of Life” for Former Presidential Adviser

“We have no knowledge of his whereabouts or current condition, which keeps us in a state of constant anguish and despair,” they state in a public letter.

The six sons and daughters of Bayardo Arce Castaño, former presidential adviser on economic affairs, are demanding a “public proof of life” for the former guerrilla commander, who has been imprisoned for more than seven months.

“As a family, we urgently demand from Rosario Murillo and Daniel Ortega, and from the entire state apparatus that supports them, official information about the medical condition and exact location of our father, Bayardo Arce,” the six children of the former Sandinista leader wrote in a public letter.

“We demand immediate PUBLIC PROOF OF LIFE and access to family visits so that we can personally verify his condition, and that urgent humanitarian measures be taken, measures that every political prisoner deserves regardless of political affiliation or position,” they stressed.

Bayardo Arce was arrested on the night of Wednesday, July 30, 2025, when dozens of officers from the Special Operations Directorate (DOE) raided his home, south of Villa Fontana in Managua, and transferred him to the National Penitentiary System.

In late January 2026, the courts of the Ortega dictatorship sentenced Bayardo Arce Castaño for the alleged crime of “money laundering, in the form of defrauding the State of Nicaragua,” according to a statement from the Office of the Attorney General (PGJ). In addition, all of his companies were dissolved and all of his assets were confiscated.

Below is the letter from the sons and daughters of Bayardo Arce in Spanish.
