The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo declared on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, that Casa de los Tres Mundos, located in the heart of the tourist and colonial city of Granada and seized by the State in August 2024, will be designated as “National Cultural Heritage.”

Casa de los Tres Mundos, located on Plaza de los Leones in the historic city of Granada, was built in 1720 and is an architectural jewel more than 306 years old, the regime emphasized in a presidential decree.

The cultural building had been managed by the NGO Fundación Casa de los Tres Mundos, which was outlawed by the Executive along with 1,499 other associations operating as nonprofit organizations on August 19, 2024, for alleged noncompliance with the law.

Sources from the Granada City Hall told CONFIDENCIAL that an “event center,” including a restaurant, will soon open at Casa de los Tres Mundos. It is unknown who will manage the venue, which is scheduled to reopen on February 12, 2026.

Part of widespread confiscations

The regime led by the spouses and “co-presidents” Ortega and Murillo also ordered that the movable and immovable assets of those 1,500 organizations be transferred to the State of Nicaragua.

In its decree, the Government emphasized that the city of Granada is National Cultural Heritage and was founded on December 8, 1524, “adjacent to the neighboring site of our pre-Columbian ancestors, the town of Xalteva, Dirianes-Chorotegas; a heroic and historic city burned on four occasions, which remains on its original founding site and location and has never been abandoned.”

It also stated that Casa de los Tres Mundos, located in the heart of Granada and built in 1720, “is envisioned as a reference point for cultural exchange and the promotion of national talent, in an environment that combines history, architecture, and modernity.”

Likewise, the Government said it is in the national interest to promote knowledge of culture, art, history, and tourism, as well as to properly value and promote expressions that contribute to preserving and disseminating National Cultural Heritage, “so that the community identifies with its values and thus guarantees its continuity into the future.”

Therefore, it declared Casa de los Tres Mundos, located on Plaza de los Leones in Granada, as National Cultural Heritage, “considering it a historical and cultural heritage site of the nation, an architectural jewel more than 306 years old, a center for artistic, cultural, and social enjoyment where activities are held that enhance our culture, art, and Nicaraguan identity.”
